Mo Egeston's Music Updates- Copia and Lola this weekend

Greetings,

Had a blast with Brothers Lazaroff this past weekend in Austin.  As well as the usual Brothers magic we had the pleasure of some great Austin guest musicians including Timmy Campbell on percussion and the incomparable Lauren Gurgiolo on a multitude of guitar like instruments.  Our Jo's brunch set even featured a guest violin appearance by the one and only Ruby Jane.  At one time she was known as a child prodigy.  These days...as a teen- she's a total pro.  Quite the treat all around.

And yes, there is a rumor going around that I attempted to dance the 2 step in an Austin dance hall.  What's that slogan?  What happens in Austin...

This weekend is full of good music.  On Friday October 29  the Soul Alliance Trio featuring CocoSoul makes its debut at Copia Urban Winery.  We'll be doing sets of Disco, Club Classics, Acid Jazz and House from 8-11 PM.

This Saturday October 30 its time to Celebrate the Groove with a special Halloween show at Lola.  For this Halloween party mo E All-Stars will be joining a roster of house DJs to celebrate the birthday of DJ Stacy Kidd.  We'll be doing live house, breaks and drum and bass in the Absinthe Bar along with a rotating cast of DJs including Jen Ha, Vinyl Bitchie, Buddah and Alexis Tucci.  2 rooms of music all night long.
The party starts around 9 and we'll be playing by 10:30.

The weekend concludes with the return of the Soul Alliance Trio to Lola for brunch.  11-2- no cover and kids are always welcome.

Coming Soon:
Brothers Lazaroff CD release at Lola on Nov. 12

Greetings,

Sean Holland joins me for a set of Acid Jazz at 11 AM which will include a couple of mo E originals.  Coco takes the stage at noon for 2 sets of chilled out house, disco and soul.  This is an all ages event and Lola has expanded into a seriously cool place to hang, eat, drink and enjoy good live music.  We'd love to see you!

Mo Egeston's Music Updates. Hyatt and Lola this weekend.

 Greetings,

If you're in the STL this weekend join us downtown at the Hyatt at the Arch as Soul Alliance Trio featuring CocoSoul  takes the stage.  We'll be doing 3 sets of house, club classics, disco and soul from 9-12.  I'm posting two links to recent Soul Alliance performances below.  The first link is actually from April when the band took part in the James Brown Tribute for KDHX.  This lineup also includes Ramon White on bass and David Lazaroff on guitar. Soul Alliance as a four piece recently kicked it at Jammin at the Zoo.  There are a few clips up so I linked to one of Coco singing Golden.

Also this weekend make Sunday Funday with the mo E trio at Lola.  Grover and Ted will be joining me with a possible sit in from percussionist Jingo Williams.   That's this Sunday from 11-2.  The new expansion is really working to everyone's benefit with more space for dining, better places to eat and watch the musicians and even a dance floor.  The trio will be exploring acid-jazz,  Latin, swing and of course some house.  Join us won't you?

Other News
Last week mo E Trio had a special sit in by guitarist Matthew Van Doran.  Matthew, a recent transplant from Orange County, is settling in downtown St. Louis.   Stay tuned- he's a great player and really nice guy.

Mo E All-Stars made its Saturday night debut last weekend at Lola.  We had a blast and DJ Steve-O was a treat. Special thanks to David, Grover, Jingo, Chris "the Proprietor" Hanson and Steve for the tasty grooves.  We return with another installment of Celebrate the Groove Saturday September 25 at Lola.

Coming Soon
mo E All-Stars Breakbeat Throwdown featuring Grover and Jingo.  Delmar Lounge September 10. 8 PM

Brothers Lazaroff at mo E's Lola Live! September 12.  The new album tracks are sounding sweet!

mo E All Stars Live @ Lola Celebrate The Groove- this Saturday

Greetings,

I'm excited to announce the big show of the week (in my world) this Saturday August 28 at Lola as I am joined by the mo E All Stars crew.  mo E All-Stars is a loose collection of rhythm section players that all share a love of house music and other electronica genres including drum and bass.

Essentially I mix the beats and loops that I use in bands like the Soul Alliance Trio and UG Project with a fully live rhythm section.  At times its completely organic, at times the band plays in sync with some of my original tracks.  Driving the funk is drummer Grover Stewart- a self described "house head".  He brings his full arsenal of musical tricks to the All-Star Stage including the occasional vocal. Grover's breakbeat skills are not to be missed.

Percussionist Duane "Jingo" Williams and I have played live house together since 2008.  Jingo brings an encyclopedic knowledge of groove based styles to the stage. (*He'll also be the other guy with sunglasses on at night. ) We will also be joined by Lola owner and percussionist Chris Hansen- a true veteran of the live house scene from his days with the Hot House Sessions.

Bringing a decidedly indie rock sound to the mix is guitarist David "DLaz" Lazaroff also of Brothers Lazaroff.  David will be singing a couple of his originals as well.  And finally we have guest noise artist collaborator Paco from Denver, CO.

Adding to the Celebration will be 4 time (at least) RFT "Best Club DJ" Steve-O.  This is a true treat for me.  Steve-O helped cement my love of all things house beginning with his legendary nights at the Otherworld with detours through the Upstairs, Rue 13, Velvet, the Green Room, Atlantis and the OZ. Hard to believe that began 15 years ago.  Steve-O will be digging deep into the vinyl and spinning everything from Acid Jazz to Soul to Deep House.  The needle drops between 8:30 and 9 and Steve will also spin between and after the sets.

We are all really looking forward to having some fun and kicking some grooves.  Feel free to join us and get your dance on.

mo E All-Stars Celebrate the Groove
Saturday August 28 Live at Lola
Live house, drum and bass, Latin and downtempo with flavors of jazz and soul
14th and Washington- enter around back.

Also this week:

Friday- the Soul Alliance goes disco for a special private show.  You can catch some of the new sounds in October at River City
Sunday- mo E Presents Lola Live! featuring the mo E trio with Grover Stewart and Teddy Brookins.

A special note of congratulations to Battle for the Crown winner CocoSoul (of the Soul Alliance).  She won the opportunity to open for the national acts at the Budweiser Superfest at Verizon Amipitheater this Thursday.

New album from Brothers Lazaroff coming soon. If you weren't at Lola brunch last Sunday you missed the end of set dance party with the Soul Alliance.  Good times!

Follow the link if you don't see the video to watch the All-Stars recent Fair St. Louis performance.

We'll do everything from jazzy drum and bass to fully organic house with the beat machine being only a component of the sound.  Grover and Jingo can recreate any groove I can write and they will have plenty of space to throw down.  We end at 11:30 so join us early if you can.  Guests may be stopping in as well.

And the new Delmar menu is really good...I'm a fan of the blackened fish.

Mo E Music. UG Project @ Lola tonight, Soul Alliance/CocoSoul tomorrow for brunch.

Greetings and Happy Summer,

Not sure what happened to Spring.... First we'd really like to thank all of those who voted in this year's RFT Music Poll.  Brothers Lazaroff was honored as the best Americana band (non-traditional).  Stay tuned for an announcement about the new Brothers album later in 2010.

Also I'm excited to announce the debut of the mo E All-Stars.  No I haven't lost it and started yet another band.   The All-Stars is an extension of the mo E Trio-groove edition and features memebers of the rhythm section as opposed to the traditional lead singer or horn player.  We are debuting under the Arch at Fair St. Louis July 3.  See below for poster.

Tonight UG Project brings their unique brand of deep house mixed with jazz, Latin and soul back to Lola.  Showtime is 9:30.  Lamar Harris won't be with us but I'll be joined by Duane "Jingo" Williams and CJ Conrod as usual.  Special guests may be in the house (heh heh) as well.

mo E trio represents the voice of pianist and bandleader Maurice "Mo" Egeston. Mo is currently known for his work as a leader of UG Project (with DJ Nune) and the Soul Alliance featuring CocoSoul as well as his work with Brothers Lazaroff.

The trio allows Mo to return to his roots as a pianist since the dinner set will include soul-jazz, standards and downtempo grooves. But as the evening progresses the groove will shift and get a whole lot deeper.

Drummer Grover Stewart and percussionist Duane "Jingo" Williams join Mo and his rack of beat machines as they explore live drum n bass, jazz and Latin flavored house and more.

Grover is a breakbeat master and Jingo and Mo have been laying down live deep house grooves since the birth of UG Project in 2008.

This is the trio's second visit to the Delmar Lounge. The first time was a blast and the new menu is great.

2010 RFT Music Showcase- My Completely Biased Choices

The 2010 RFT Music Showcase hits Washington Ave this Saturday.  UG Project plays at 3 followed by Brothers Lazaroff at 4 PM at 11th and Washington.
Vote by clicking here.

Many great artists are nominated so feel free to look around....Below are the blurbs on my favorites.  They are from this original RFT post .

You may notice a theme...but honestly after years in this game I know many deserving folks that aren't ever recognized which is unfortunate.

But it is always nice to have your work acknowledged and its cool that the RFT continues to pull this together year after year.

Blurbs are below. Because of our shows at River City and Lola that weekend (and CocoSoul's Chaka tribute at the Black Rep Sunday night) the Soul Alliance won't be part of the showcase.

Best Funk/Soul/R&B (Group)
The Soul Alliance featuring CoCoSoul
www.thesoulalliancestl.com

Led by musical director Mo Egeston and featuring devastating vocalist CocoSoul, the Soul Alliance is not a musty oldies band. Together the act demolishes the boundaries between funk, R&B — and, yes, soul — with impressive instrumental skill. There may be louder rhythm sections in St. Louis, but the one-two punch of Jason "Dirty Lynt" Moore on drums and Sean "Hollabass" Holland on bass keeps the Soul Alliance as tight as any unit in town. (RK)

Best Americana/Folk (Untraditional)Brothers Lazaroffwww.brotherslazaroff.com
To be clear, Jeff and David Lazaroff — the look-alike, but not twin siblings of Brothers Lazaroff — have moved beyond all things folk, even as their songwriting retains its connection to their heroes: Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen. Backed up by the supremely tight rhythm section of Teddy Brookins and Grover Stewart and pushed into the funkosphere by jazz and electronic maestro Mo Egeston on keyboards, Brothers Lazaroff can jam your ass and stir your heart. (RK)

Best Funk/Soul/R&B (Group)
UG Projectwww.ugproject.com
Urban Groov Project (UG Project for short) is co-helmed by veteran sonic-alchemist and keyboardist Mo Egeston and composer and brassman DJ Nune. Along with percussionist Duane "Jingo" Williams, the UG Project plays a funk-based form of jazz fusion that will appeal to electronica heads, experimental hip-hoppers and anyone who wonders what electric Herbie Hancock mashed up with deep house sounds like. Mo Egeston's Music Updates- UG Project Saturday; TSA with CocoSoul Sunday

Greetings,

Busy busy times these days.  I'm feeling very grateful for the many opportunities that are presenting themselves as we approach the summer.  And today it looks like sun in St. Louis- always a welcome sight. If you are viewing this on Facebook I encourage you to click "view original post" to see this note in full.

I want to thank Kevin Johnson one more time for his generous mention of me in the St. Louis Post Dispatch- Go Entertainment Section.  Other than seeing more of my personal life in print than I ever hope to again.....I'm truly humbled by the coverage and all of the kind comments I've received since then.  One of my young piano students thought that this article meant I was ending our lessons because I was going to be to busy for him.  I assured him I wasn't going to leave him!

Mo Egeston hits all the notes in busy life

This weekend I have 2 shows on the bill at Lola.  Saturday May 22 I return to the stage with 2010 RFT Nominee UG Project.

This is the live house music crew which blends elements of jazz, soul, funk, house, Latin and techno featuring
DJ Nune (Lamar Harris)- brass, keys and vocals
C Jay Conrod- vocals
Duane "Jingo" Williams- percussion.
Maurice "Mo" Egeston- keys and beat madness

Sunday May 23 its Coco time. Mo Egeston Presents is a weekly brunch music series held at Lola from 11-2 on Sundays.   This week its 2010 RFT Nominee the Soul Alliance featuring CocoSoul.  Sean Holland will join me on bass from 11-11:45 for a set of groovy acid jazz.  Coco  joins us at noon for 2 sets of soul, chillout house and assorted stuff that grooves.  Coco is a genuine St. Louis treasure- I encourage you to hear her.

Brunches at Lola are all ages and kids are always welcome.  You can order off the menu, chill on the couches, at the bar or in the outdoor courtyard.  And there have been random episodes of dancing.  Did I mention the mimosas and Bloody Mary's?

You may have noticed, perhaps due to the subtle bold type, a reference to the 2010 RFT Music Showcase. (Click to see the list of nominees) As with any of these events things are quite subjective and many, many fine musicians never get recognized by such polls year after year.  However this year not 1 but 3 of the projects I'm affiliated with have been honored with a nomination.

We'd all appreciate getting some votes so please follow the link to show us some love. There is a bit of a problem with all the computer hackers out there so you will have to include some info to vote.  http://polls.riverfronttimes.com/polls/stl/musicshowcase2010/

 And the nominees are
Best Americana/Folk (Untraditional)
Brothers Lazaroff

Best Funk/Soul/R&B (Group)
the Soul Alliance featuring CocoSoul
UG Project

So as you could have guessed....I won't be disclosing my vote in the Funk/Soul group category!! We also will have the opportunity to play as part of the showcase.  the Soul Alliance is making its debut at River City that weekend so I don't think I'll be able to have them perform.  It does look like UG Project and Brothers Lazaroff will have a chance to play on June 5th so stay tuned for info.

(Lamar Harris would love a vote in the Solo Funk/Soul category where he is also nominated.)
