Elizabeth McQueen Meet Brothers Lazaroff

Elizabeth McQueen and Brothers Lazaroff want to make an EP together,
and they'd like you to be a part of it.
Elizabeth McQueen and Brothers Lazaroff have been playing music together for so long that we've become as close as family. Now, we'd like you to become part of that family. We'd like to invite you to join us as we embark on a new project. Laugh with us as we make mistakes.  See how the studio process works. Watch us as we make decisions not just about the music, but about the visual and video aspects of the project.  Explore with us as we navigate making music together while living 800 miles apart.
In 2008, Elizabeth put out "The Laziest Girl in Town." In January 2012, Brothers Lazaroff remixed two songs, just to see how it went.
    It went really well.

So well in fact that we want to finish the project. Our goal is to make a 5 song EP, although if we exceed our funding goal we'd love to do more songs.  The dollar amount we've put together covers the recording, mixing, and mastering costs for the project. It also covers the production costs for CD and Vinyl copies, as well as promotional costs for the project.
Though we call these remixes, they're actually more like reworkings of the songs.  We take the original tracks and build upon them, often rewriting and re-recording a large part of the instrumentation. It's a pretty involved process, but one that has produced work we're all incredibly proud of.  You can here the first two songs we recorded here:

    http://laziestremix.bandcamp.com

But we want more than just your help in paying for the costs of the project.  The seismic shifts of the digital age have changed the mandate for musicians. It's no longer about us creating in secret, and then releasing our work for the sole purpose of selling it.  Now we can involve anyone who wants to be in the creative process. We can give you insight into the collaboration involved in pre-production and the sometimes nerve wracking always rewarding recording process through video updates and blog posts. You can watch as we discover the depth and breath of how we want the record to sound and look.  We'll even let you know how we're navigating this Kickstarter campaign, which is new for all of us.  We get to communicate directly to you which means we get to create a community around a project, rather than just trying to generate a buzz.

Plus you get the music and, depending on what level you choose to pledge at, a customized  voicemail greeting and/or limited edition T-shirts and/or limited edition screen print posters. Maybe even a house concert!

It's exciting. And we can't wait to get started!

We hope you'll join us and hope you'll celebrate the fact that now we can do more with music than we ever could before.

    Let's make something together.

    Thursday, March 29, 2012

    Greetings,
Hard to believe we're at the end of the month again but that means the Mo E All-Stars will be taking the stage at Lola which is always a good thing.  This Saturday March 31 we'll be on at 9 PM opening up for a diverse bill of artists that includes Hawthorne Headhunters, Def Sound and the headliner J*Davey.

Check out Lola's website for more info. welovelola.com

The week got off to a great start with the Mo E All-Stars 3 at the Delmar Lounge. The Delmar is changing some things around which means we got to stretch out and play the late set. Drummer Grover Stewart and percussionist Duane Williams killed it!  Unfortunately due to scheduling conflicts it looks like we won't be doing an April show.  But we'll definitely be back in May with our own special blend of House, Soul, Latin and Nu Jazz.

Here's a clip or click the link if you get this in an email.  Many thanks to everyone who came out and supported the All-Stars groove.

Switching hats for a minute, this week also marks the beginning of solo and ensemble and recital season.  As usual I'll be accompanying the orchestra students from Ladue Middle School.   Following that violinist Twinda Murry and I will hold  our next student recital at Steinway Piano Gallery on May 1.  This year I'm also excited to accompany the violin and voice students from Teipen Performing Arts for our Spring Recital on May 20.

I joined mezzo-soprano/violinist Nora Teipen, pianist George Tesson and guitarist Deyan Bratic (all Teipen teachers) this past week for a special 2nd grade classroom visit at Conway Elementary. We talked about our careers in music and did quick demonstrations of our instruments and various styles of music. The kids got to hear opera, finger style guitar, jazz and even a little Charlie Brown music (Guaraldi) and we had a great time doing it.  Nice to have such a curious and appreciative audience! We definitely will do that again.

    Returning to club land...

I'll be doing a couple of shows in early to mid April at Lola during the dinner hour.  One date is to be confirmed but Thursday April 19 is on the books as a part of the all new Downtown STL Art Walk.  Dates and times will be confirmed by the next update.

Of course the big news in April is Brothers Lazaroff's CD release weekend April 20-22.   Coming off another fun SXSW we're looking forward to a weekend that showcases all sides of the band.  Friday its the Gramophone with the Feed and Cree Rider and Saturday we're unplugged at the Focal Point with special guests CocoSoul and James Stone Goodman.

The weekend closes with a return to Sunday Brunch at Lola also featuring JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound.  The new release "Science Won" is already getting some spins on KDHX....official promotions are on the way.

    Coming Soon...

April 27- 1904 Steakhouse (River City) with CocoSoul
April 28 @ Lola with Mark DeClive Lowe

Thanks for reading.  Hope to see you at a show soon!

Mo Egeston's Music Updates- Copia and Lola this weekend

    Greetings,

Had a blast with Brothers Lazaroff this past weekend in Austin.  As well as the usual Brothers magic we had the pleasure of some great Austin guest musicians including Timmy Campbell on percussion and the incomparable Lauren Gurgiolo on a multitude of guitar like instruments.  Our Jo's brunch set even featured a guest violin appearance by the one and only Ruby Jane.  At one time she was known as a child prodigy.  These days...as a teen- she's a total pro.  Quite the treat all around.

And yes, there is a rumor going around that I attempted to dance the 2 step in an Austin dance hall.  What's that slogan?  What happens in Austin...

This weekend is full of good music.  On Friday October 29  the Soul Alliance Trio featuring CocoSoul makes its debut at Copia Urban Winery.  We'll be doing sets of Disco, Club Classics, Acid Jazz and House from 8-11 PM.

This Saturday October 30 its time to Celebrate the Groove with a special Halloween show at Lola.  For this Halloween party mo E All-Stars will be joining a roster of house DJs to celebrate the birthday of DJ Stacy Kidd.  We'll be doing live house, breaks and drum and bass in the Absinthe Bar along with a rotating cast of DJs including Jen Ha, Vinyl Bitchie, Buddah and Alexis Tucci.  2 rooms of music all night long.
The party starts around 9 and we'll be playing by 10:30.

The weekend concludes with the return of the Soul Alliance Trio to Lola for brunch.  11-2- no cover and kids are always welcome.

    Coming Soon:
Brothers Lazaroff CD release at Lola on Nov. 12

Mo Egeston's Music Updates. Hyatt and Lola this weekend.

     Greetings,

If you're in the STL this weekend join us downtown at the Hyatt at the Arch as Soul Alliance Trio featuring CocoSoul  takes the stage.  We'll be doing 3 sets of house, club classics, disco and soul from 9-12.  I'm posting two links to recent Soul Alliance performances below.  The first link is actually from April when the band took part in the James Brown Tribute for KDHX.  This lineup also includes Ramon White on bass and David Lazaroff on guitar. Soul Alliance as a four piece recently kicked it at Jammin at the Zoo.  There are a few clips up so I linked to one of Coco singing Golden.

Also this weekend make Sunday Funday with the mo E trio at Lola.  Grover and Ted will be joining me with a possible sit in from percussionist Jingo Williams.   That's this Sunday from 11-2.  The new expansion is really working to everyone's benefit with more space for dining, better places to eat and watch the musicians and even a dance floor.  The trio will be exploring acid-jazz,  Latin, swing and of course some house.  Join us won't you?

    Other News
Last week mo E Trio had a special sit in by guitarist Matthew Van Doran.  Matthew, a recent transplant from Orange County, is settling in downtown St. Louis.   Stay tuned- he's a great player and really nice guy.

Mo E All-Stars made its Saturday night debut last weekend at Lola.  We had a blast and DJ Steve-O was a treat. Special thanks to David, Grover, Jingo, Chris "the Proprietor" Hanson and Steve for the tasty grooves.  We return with another installment of Celebrate the Groove Saturday September 25 at Lola.

    Coming Soon

Mo E Music. UG Project @ Lola tonight, Soul Alliance/CocoSoul tomorrow for brunch.

    Greetings and Happy Summer,

Not sure what happened to Spring.... First we'd really like to thank all of those who voted in this year's RFT Music Poll.  Brothers Lazaroff was honored as the best Americana band (non-traditional).  Stay tuned for an announcement about the new Brothers album later in 2010.

Also I'm excited to announce the debut of the mo E All-Stars.  No I haven't lost it and started yet another band.   The All-Stars is an extension of the mo E Trio-groove edition and features memebers of the rhythm section as opposed to the traditional lead singer or horn player.  We are debuting under the Arch at Fair St. Louis July 3.  See below for poster.

Tonight UG Project brings their unique brand of deep house mixed with jazz, Latin and soul back to Lola.  Showtime is 9:30.  Lamar Harris won't be with us but I'll be joined by Duane "Jingo" Williams and CJ Conrod as usual.  Special guests may be in the house (heh heh) as well.

Mo Egeston's Music Updates- UG Project Saturday; TSA with CocoSoul Sunday

    Greetings,

Busy busy times these days.  I'm feeling very grateful for the many opportunities that are presenting themselves as we approach the summer.  And today it looks like sun in St. Louis- always a welcome sight. If you are viewing this on Facebook I encourage you to click "view original post" to see this note in full.

I want to thank Kevin Johnson one more time for his generous mention of me in the St. Louis Post Dispatch- Go Entertainment Section.  Other than seeing more of my personal life in print than I ever hope to again.....I'm truly humbled by the coverage and all of the kind comments I've received since then.  One of my young piano students thought that this article meant I was ending our lessons because I was going to be to busy for him.  I assured him I wasn't going to leave him!

You can follow this link to see the article.

Mo Egeston hits all the notes in busy life

This weekend I have 2 shows on the bill at Lola.  Saturday May 22 I return to the stage with 2010 RFT Nominee UG Project.

This is the live house music crew which blends elements of jazz, soul, funk, house, Latin and techno featuring
DJ Nune (Lamar Harris)- brass, keys and vocals
    C Jay Conrod- vocals
    Duane "Jingo" Williams- percussion.
Maurice "Mo" Egeston- keys and beat madness

Sunday May 23 its Coco time. Mo Egeston Presents is a weekly brunch music series held at Lola from 11-2 on Sundays.   This week its 2010 RFT Nominee the Soul Alliance featuring CocoSoul.  Sean Holland will join me on bass from 11-11:45 for a set of groovy acid jazz.  Coco  joins us at noon for 2 sets of soul, chillout house and assorted stuff that grooves.  Coco is a genuine St. Louis treasure- I encourage you to hear her.

Brunches at Lola are all ages and kids are always welcome.  You can order off the menu, chill on the couches, at the bar or in the outdoor courtyard.  And there have been random episodes of dancing.  Did I mention the mimosas and Bloody Mary's?

You may have noticed, perhaps due to the subtle bold type, a reference to the 2010 RFT Music Showcase. (Click to see the list of nominees) As with any of these events things are quite subjective and many, many fine musicians never get recognized by such polls year after year.  However this year not 1 but 3 of the projects I'm affiliated with have been honored with a nomination.

We'd all appreciate getting some votes so please follow the link to show us some love. There is a bit of a problem with all the computer hackers out there so you will have to include some info to vote.  http://polls.riverfronttimes.com/polls/stl/musicshowcase2010/

     And the nominees are
    Best Americana/Folk (Untraditional)
    Brothers Lazaroff

    Best Funk/Soul/R&B (Group)
    the Soul Alliance featuring CocoSoul
    UG Project

So as you could have guessed....I won't be disclosing my vote in the Funk/Soul group category!! We also will have the opportunity to play as part of the showcase.  the Soul Alliance is making its debut at River City that weekend so I don't think I'll be able to have them perform.  It does look like UG Project and Brothers Lazaroff will have a chance to play on June 5th so stay tuned for info.

(Lamar Harris would love a vote in the Solo Funk/Soul category where he is also nominated.)

    News and Notes
    The Soul Alliance featuring CocoSoul
had a great time entertaining a sold out Off Broadway as a part of a James Brown tribute and KDHX fundraiser this past Friday.  Coco literally brought the house down and the evening was full of talent.  You can catch some of that energy by following the link to some photos from the evening.

www.flickr.com/photos/sara_photos/sets/72157623977536836/ ( Photos- Look for the slideshow link for optimal viewing.)
The Soul Alliance has its first full band public  performances of 2010 June 4-5 at River City Casino. Before that catch the trio live @ Lola for Brunch on May 23.

I'll be joining D Laz of Brothers Lazaroff on some of his new LIVE excursions into sonic madness this Spring and Summer.  D Laz is bringing some Austin and Indie Rock flavor to the idea of beats, sound manipulation, mixing and improvisation.  Can you say keytar?  I knew you could. Studio sounds can't be far behind...

Brothers Lazaroff hits the stage at the City Museum on May 13 as a part of KDHX's Midwest Mayhem and again at Lola for Brunch on May 16.

UG Project returns to Lola for the monthly live house music throwdown Saturday May 22.  Featuring DJ Nune (Lamar Harris), C Jay Conrod, Jingo Williams and mo E.

Finally a shout out to the students of Egeston Piano Studio and University City Violin Academy (violinist Twinda Murry) for another successful recital at Steinway Piano Gallery.  The students take the stage next in late July with a possible performance by the Mowinda Chamber Ensemble.

Stay tuned and thanks for supporting live music in all of its forms.

    Introducing the Mo E Trio

mo E trio- a Journey in Sound Soul & Groove

From the start of his performing career in the mid 90s Maurice
“Mo” Egeston has made a mark in the St. Louis region as a leader of innovative and
popular bands. His early study of classical piano brought him to
graduate work at SIU-E. It was while completing his Master's that Mo
began exploring styles of music beyond the classical tradition.

Since then, all of his projects including Vargas Swing, the Soul Alliance featuring CocoSoul, Urban Jazz Naturals and mo & dawn have seen Mo combine his musical talent and formal
training with an ability to lead and run successful groups.

In 2010 Mo Egeston is returning to his roots as a pianist by fronting his own group- the
    mo E trio
The Trio combines influences from all the projects Mo currently performs in (UG Project, the Soul Alliance, and Brothers Lazaroff) with his own interest in soul, jazz and electronic
influences.  The resulting sound is a groove based experience
that seeks to redefine traditional expectations.

(Thanks to John Evans Jr. for much of the video and photography)

Drummer Grover Stewart and bassist Teddy Brookins join Mo on this journey. Styles referenced include soul, jazz, bossa, r & b, organic house grooves and drum and bass but no genre is considered off limits. Originals, jazz standards, pop music and neo-soul melodies will all be a part of the Mo E Trio sound.  A sound which easily slides from deep lounge ambiance to center stage funk grooves. At times guest artists will be part of the experience but the sound starts with Mo, Grover and Ted.

mo E trio-always diverse and improvisational with a definite focus on the tap of the toe and the nod of the head.
