Red Pill Recording Session with Brothers Lazaroff- Live Stream Archive

"Red Pill Recording Session with Brothers Lazaroff

Red Pill Studio is located in St. Louis, Missouri. The work ethic of Red Pill is founded on collaboration. Artist development is our core technology and philosophy at Red Pill."

Jeff and David recently went in and did vocals.  This is a look inside the first session where we did the rhythm tracks for 15 songs.  15 songs that the rhythm section was playing for the first time.

Scary for me since I've never done that.  But it was also truly liberating.  Had a blast working with Jacob for the first time in a true session.

Look for a release late in 2010 from Brothers Lazaroff.

Music Appreciation Supplement- Columbia College St. Louis. What is melisma?

Melisma is a vocal technique that occurs when a singer sings many notes against a single syllable of text.  It has been in use since at least the Middle Ages in styles such as Gregorian Chant and continues through the music of Bach and Romantic Opera.

A 20th Century version emerged in the African-American church and was demonstrated to the world by singers such as Aretha Franklin.  When used correctly in this context melisma can convey the raw emotion of the text.

Unfortunately it can also be abused as part of an attempt to create an effective and personal interpretation of a song.  The NPR article linked below discusses this concept further.
